I joined the chorus in my freshman year at M&A, in 1954, and
remained in it until the fall of 1957, when college applications and
visits became the focus of my life. I was an indifferent musician and
eventually (a long "eventually") ended up as a conservative rabbi.
RC had a profound effect on my understanding of music. When I became a conservative rabbi I had no background in the chants of the traditional Jewish service. RC gave me an intuitive understanding and permitted me to become adept at the modal music that Jewish chant is. Jon Konheim |
