I knew Harold when I was living in Philadelphia and part of Shirley Gabis's circle of friends. Later my wife Betty and Harold became quite close. And much later, in New york, Harold visited many times, and for a short time came to stay at my West End apartment I shared with my second wife Isabelle. He parked his huge Steinway grand in our living room. For a long time. Harold was a big influence on my life, musically, also politically, and in terms of just being alive.
