Comments :   Thanks to Ralph Buxton of Notre Dame Choir Editions for sharing his beautifully edited Richafort Requiem- composed in honor of Josquin. We hope the Friday group will get to read it soon.

For those who will be available, it will be heard on 3/13/10 sung by the fine Young New Yorkers Chorus.

Comments :   Congrats on the Centennial. I wish that I could have been there and seen old friends. So glad that it went well and that there might be another event someday. I'll sure try to come! It would have been much more meaningful to me than the 40th high school reunion that I attended in 2008: during my teens, my friends were in the Renaissance Chorus, not in my high school.
Thanks for keeping me on the mailing list and sending out postings. I really appreciate all the efforts you folks have made, in keeping Renaissance music and Harold Brown's memory alive. Both the music and the friendships formed around the singing have made a difference in so many people's lives.

Comments :   Dear John Hetland: I thought you would be interested to know that I as well recorded most of the singing. I do not plan to go into competition with you if for no other reason than I am sure it will take me a very long time to do the necessary transfers. I used what is called a digital voice recorder, (which I have a had a while, but have not used much in this way), about half the size of an ipod, though twice as thick. I listened to it with ear phones on the way home and was quite surprised with the quality of the recording, given the little device it was recorded on.
It was a great weekend! Best wishes, Klaus

Comments :   Thank you all for a wonderful weekend of music and memories. It was especially a thrill to sing the Buscaya Kyrie and to hear the wonderful Credo Sine Nomine again. Laurie would have loved it and it was great to be able to bring her son Gabe to the Sunday concert. Does anyone remember Dorothy Brodkin? She died 19 years ago, but she definitely would have been there last weekend too.

Comments :   I regret to convey the delayed news of the demise, in 2006, of a wonderful man and singer: Louis Flaim. Louis can be heard intoning the incipit in Harold's 1975 Fayrfax Missa tecum principium. Louis, a strikingly tall man and true bass, was devoted to the choral traditions of his ancestral Northern Italian forbearers and graced several fine choirs, including Cerddorian and that of Notre Dame [shrine].

Ted [Grudzinski] is currently in Augusta Medical Center Rehabilitation Rm 2 78 Medical Center Drive Fisherville Va 22939 Phone 540-332-5002. He is recovering nicely from the stroke he sufferered earlier this month at home in the Shendoah Valley--primarily affecting his speech at this point. He would love to have phone calls & notes. I suggest if people call that they introduce themselves & remind him of their connection. He understands & remembers everything...but still has some frustrations & difficulties with word-finding & articulation. His goal in Speech, Physical & Occupational Therapy is to be whole & well & singing at the Ren Chorus reunion in the fall. He even asked me to tell his therapists & family the date to mark on his calendar! Please spread the word. Thanks. Lucy

Comments :   Hi Ruth,
I remember well the 1961 concert in which I participated- have the flyer in my scrap book. I appreciated the Renaissance chorus and H. B. and was grateful to him for the trust that he had in my playing capacities (I was a mere 20 at the time). Regretfully I will not be able to be at your celebrations as I live in Geneva, Switzerland (since 1973). Keep me informed nevertheless, and should you be in my corner of the world it would be a pleasure to meet you.
Best wishes for a successful celebration.

Comments :   I am coming to the reunion!! at last, finally I have time to focus on this event. I still sing and play (the recorder), practice every week, and definitely would like to participate wherever possible. I sight read and sing music very well, AND still have my copies of the music we sang!! DesPres, Ockeghem, Hassler, Brown etc. I left the chorus around 1968-9 to have my daughter Sonia - whose infant self I brought to a rehearsal at Columbia. Anyone remember that?

Comment :   It is wonderful to make contact again after all these years. Brings back many memories, but unfortunately many forgetterries as well, my mind having become like a stainless steel sieve. The chorus was a wonderful experience which together with Music and Art, put me in contact with many interesting, delightful people, most of whom I have lost contact with. I would be delighted to hear from any of you.

Comment :   This is to let you all know that Laurie Sucher, who was diagnosed with cancer seven months ago, has recently gone downhill rather quickly. She's at home, quite peaceful, surrounded by family, friends and music. If you want to call, she may not be able to speak to you, but she will know that you called. 773-764-2692. Hello to you all from an old chorus member. And from Laurie through me.

Comment :   Hi all. So great to see all your familiar and some unfamiliar names and to remember all the wonderful music we sang. I know that many of you are aware that Laurie Sucher has been fighting cancer for the last seven months. Sadly, she has recently gone dow
surrounded by her family. Many friends have been coming and going, including me, but at this time they are not particularly encouraging visitors. Her three boys make music constantly, and she lies there, eyes closed, happily conducting. I know how muc
She can't really talk on the phone, but you never know. At any rate, she probably would be happy to hear you called. So, if you feel moved to: 773-764-2692.

Comment :   Following Phil Corner, started to look into Perotin-HB did Sederunt Principes in 57/8- I found the scores and the letter {15 Oct 57} from Frank L. Moore, the principal of Mercury Music Corp. with” the price for borrowing...that Mr & Mrs Frank Moore are allowed to hear said concert [he continued](This wasn't thought of until I glanced again at the first few measures!)”- Would that current publishers be so interested. This may indicate the thirst for this music that HB found.

Comment :   Elated to have found this page! Had tried before unsuccessfully to find RCNY friends. A few days ago found Lorry Lorber accidentally, and today... today I've found almost everybody! Will love to hear from old friends and recall those exciting endogamic avant garde musical times. In case you don't remember me I am that shy but red-diaper spaniard WSC student who walked into RC by the hand of Lorry, Peter Kurz, Peter Heim, Joel Meltz, and Ray Rosenstock. Sorry if I've overlooked someone, age is the culprit.

Once this and the repertoire is set will work on publicity and funding, all areas happily lessened in academia performance- but we still are, considering it is NYC, prudently hopeful that we can remain in budget. Volunteers will be required. call.

2. WBAI and Chris Whent are having a schedule change problem- our community should support him in any way it can. I’d hate to see us lose HOASM.
3. WQXR sees fit to serve classical elevator music after midnight- no commentary or announcer, in common there is media disdain of historical context/attribution.

Comment :   Judy and I habitually listened to Joel Meltz' radio program. One evening he announced that he would be leading a singing session at a coffeehouse in the East Village. We and 2-3 others did that, with weekly continuation. Then, Joel invited us to join the R C. Someone there told us that once Harold got so carried away by the music that he forgot to keep a grip on his baton and it went sailing out an open window. If someone who actually witnessed that event in person could describe it instead of our second-hand description, it would be appreciated.

The after-school club at Music and Art H.S., and the later continuation of the Chorus, was a high point of my teen years. I am thrilled to learn that others have done a much better job than I at keeping in touch with that wonderful group.
